Artist adds controversial “ Bullet Proof School Desk “ to LA Target Store Display.

A Los Angeles based street  artist  - Plastic Jesus -  has added his voice to controversy following the  recent Ulvade school shootings in Texas, by covertly adding a “Bullet Proof School desk” to the children’s furniture section of a Target Store in Hollywood, California.

The British born artist made the poignant statement following repeated deadly school shootings in the USA. An authentic looking price tag reads, “Bullet Proof Child’s School Desk. NRA Endorsed, $199”

The Artists shared photographs of the guerrilla installation to his Twitter (@plasticjesus9) and Instagram (@Plasticjesus)  accounts along with his website ( www.plasticjesus.net ) on Thursday. 

Complete with a child sized chair the mini desk has ‘ Bullet proof ‘ panels around the legs, creating a ‘safe-space’ for a child to crawl in the event of a school attack.

A hang tag attached to the side reads : No more need for thoughts and prayers, don’t let your child be the next victim and only available in the USA.

In a statement posted on the artist’s website: “I’ve been in the US for nearly fifteen years and nothing has changed. Every time there is a school shooting we hear calls that ‘something must change this time’ and from the other side we keep hearing that ‘ now is not the time to talk about gun reform’. How many children have to be sacrificed to protect the crazy laws surrounding guns in the Country’

The desk is made from a genuine school desk with black ballistic nylon panels at the bottom. The artist had initially intended to use Kevlar bullet proof panels but was told they would take 4-6 weeks to arrive, he commented : “ Unlike many politicians in this country I did not feel this issue could wait, we need action now”
